About The Author

Christie Havey Smith

Christie Havey Smith is an LA-based writer specializing in fiction and narrative nonfiction literature. She grew up in Chicago where the cold months gave her an excuse to stay inside reading books, watching movies, and putting on elaborate plays. In 2000, she graduated with a degree in Television and Film from Ohio University and left the long winters in the Midwest for sunny Los Angeles. She hustled her way into a career in creative development for feature films, working for Castle Rock and Dreamworks before starting her family.

Christie’s first book, From Three Feet off The Ground, was inspired by her children. It is the heart song of a mother making humbling, life-changing discoveries from her toddlers’ point of view. The San Francisco Book Review called it, “fun, inspiring, and brilliant.”

Christie has a thirst for life that keeps her growing. She received her masters in Theology and Spiritual Direction from Loyola Marymount University where she has taught creative and contemplative writing classes. She also has a certificate in Mindfulness and Meditation from the Greater Good Science Center of UC Berkeley. In 2020, she opened a community retreat space in her neighborhood called The Greenhouse. There she offers various storytelling workshops, often helping participants explore the stories they carry—cultural, intergenerational, spiritual, and experiential—as a path toward clarity and creativity both in life and on the page.

Years of holding space for stories has fueled Christie’s writing. Her debut novel, Threads of Us, explores love’s power over loss with intricate dilemmas and heartening twists. It will be released on October 8, 2024.
